In Luxembourg, you can use your contactless credit card for any amount.
For purchases:
- under 50 EUR, no PIN code is required.
- over 50 EUR, you will need to enter your usual PIN code.
These amounts vary from one country to another. Ask the retailers you visit for more information.
In addition, you can accumulate several consecutive small contactless purchases without a PIN, up to a cumulative amount of 100 EUR. Once this limit is reached, the terminal will ask you to enter your usual PIN code to validate contactless transactions.
To be able to carry out contactless transactions again without a PIN, you must insert your card into the terminal and enter your usual PIN code. This resets the cumulative amount of contactless transactions without a PIN to zero. However, entering the PIN during a contactless transaction (i.e. without inserting the card into the terminal) does not reset the cumulative amount.
As a security measure, you may be asked for your PIN from time to time.
You will also need to insert your card into the terminal the first time you use it to activate the contactless feature.
