The first cooperative banks were founded in the 19th century, following the vision of Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen and Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch, the founders of the first rural cooperative banks in Germany. The first Raiffeisen credit cooperatives were founded in Luxembourg in 1925. In early 1926, the existing banks set up the ‘Centrale des Caisses Raiffeisen luxembourgeoises’, known as Banque Raiffeisen since 2001.

The Raiffeisen model developed very quickly and by 1970, the network counted 138 outlets across the country. Offering its clients high quality service, many Raiffeisen branches merged to form the Raiffeisen Group, which was made up of 13 branches, each with several agencies, plus 12 agencies that report directly to Banque Raiffeisen. Today, Banque Raiffeisen counts 38 agencies across the country. 

Each Raiffeisen agency has three complementary business lines, targeting:

• Private clients
• Corporate clients
• Investors/asset management

With a network of almost 40 branches, Raiffeisen assists private clients with their everyday banking requirements, finance for their projects and management for their savings and investments. It also serves businesses and freelancers and has a team of specialist corporate advisors with vast experience in financial services and state aid, offering personalised monitoring and supervision. Finally, the Bank’s asset management specialists provide a professional service for savers and investors, in keeping with their specific risk profile.
